GoHighLevel or HubSpot.
Which suits a South African business?

A South African CRM comparison

Both platforms can run your contacts, pipeline and follow-up. They charge in very different ways, and that difference matters most for owner-managed teams paying in US dollars. Here is how they compare, and where each one fits.

Which should a South African business choose?

For most owner-managed South African businesses that need enquiries, bookings, WhatsApp and follow-up in one place, we recommend GoHighLevel. We supply it as ConvertX, our white-labelled HighLevel account, with the setup and support handled by Digital 4 Jesus.

HubSpot is the stronger choice for larger marketing teams that need mature reporting, a content system and a wide app marketplace, and that can carry per-seat pricing in US dollars. If your business already runs well on HubSpot, keep it.

Digital 4 Jesus sells GoHighLevel setup through ConvertX, so weigh our recommendation with that in mind. The figures below come from each vendor's public pricing pages, so you can check them yourself.

What are GoHighLevel, ConvertX and HubSpot?

GoHighLevel (HighLevel) is an all-in-one sales and marketing platform. It puts contacts, pipelines, forms, calendars, email, SMS, WhatsApp and automated follow-up in one account. It was built for agencies, which is why it can be white-labelled and supplied to businesses under another name.

ConvertX is that white-labelled version, supplied and supported by Digital 4 Jesus. It is HighLevel, powered by HighLevel's infrastructure, with D4J responsible for the account setup, process design and support. It is not an official HighLevel product or partnership.

HubSpot is a customer platform made up of separate hubs, such as Sales Hub, Marketing Hub and Service Hub, sold in Starter, Professional and Enterprise editions. Each user needs a paid seat on the paid editions.

How do the costs compare?

The biggest difference is how each platform counts users. HighLevel charges per account and includes unlimited users and contacts on every plan. HubSpot charges per seat, so the bill grows with your team.

Published list prices, checked 25 October 2026 (USD, before tax)
PlanListed price and users
HighLevel Starter$97 a month, unlimited users and contacts
HighLevel Unlimited$297 a month, unlimited users and contacts
HubSpot Sales Hub Starter$20 a seat a month, with limited-time discounts for new customers. Each user needs a seat.
HubSpot Sales Hub Professional$100 a seat a month billed monthly, or $90 billed annually, plus a required $1,500 onboarding fee. Each user needs a seat.

As a worked example, a five-person sales team on HubSpot Sales Hub Professional, billed monthly, pays 5 × $100 = $500 a month plus the $1,500 onboarding fee. The same team on a HighLevel Starter plan pays $97 a month whatever its size. ConvertX is quoted privately, so ask us for a quote rather than comparing it with these list prices.

Neither price is the whole cost. Both platforms charge separately for some usage, such as messaging, calls, AI credits or extra marketing contacts. Implementation is extra on both, and every amount is in US dollars, so the rand cost moves with the exchange rate.

How do they handle WhatsApp?

Many South African customers would rather message than fill in a form, so check WhatsApp before you choose.

HubSpot's native WhatsApp integration needs the Professional or Enterprise edition of Marketing Hub or Service Hub, plus a WhatsApp Business account and number. On a Starter plan you would need a third-party app.

HighLevel includes WhatsApp in the platform, with usage charged separately. HighLevel currently says its Coexistence feature, which lets the WhatsApp Business App and the CRM share a number, is not supported for South African numbers. Plan for a new number or a migration of your existing one.

When is HubSpot the better choice?

  • Your marketing team needs detailed attribution reporting, a content management system and long-form content tools in one place.
  • You rely on apps from HubSpot's marketplace of more than 2,000 integrations that HighLevel does not connect to.
  • Your team already uses HubSpot well, and the cost of moving outweighs what you would save.
  • Your organisation wants software bought directly from a large vendor rather than through an agency.

In these cases, keep or choose HubSpot and put the effort into a clear process. Software alone does not decide whether an enquiry gets answered.

Why we recommend ConvertX for most owner-managed businesses

  • Adding a receptionist, an estimator or a second salesperson does not add a seat to the bill.
  • Forms, calendars, pipelines, email, SMS, WhatsApp and follow-up live in one account, without a higher edition for each.
  • Digital 4 Jesus sets up the account around your enquiry process, trains your team and supports it from Pretoria, Monday to Friday, 8am to 4pm.
  • We use it ourselves. Our own website enquiries go into ConvertX.

ConvertX still needs someone in your business to own the process and respond to people. The Rental Buddies case study shows a ConvertX implementation we built and what it does today.

What should you check before switching?

  1. Export your data. List the contacts, deals, notes and files you need, and check what each platform can export and import.
  2. Map your process. Write down how an enquiry arrives, who owns it, what happens next and when follow-up stops.
  3. Check your numbers and channels. Confirm how your phone number and WhatsApp will move, and test them with authorised contacts.
  4. Keep both running briefly. Cancel the old system only once the new one handles real enquiries correctly.

If you already use HighLevel through your own plan or another agency, ask us whether moving the account to ConvertX would cost you less. The audit and repair service covers accounts that need fixing first.
